A revised Edition of the book ‘A SHORT HISTORY OF THE ROYAL ORDNANCE FACTORY POOLE 1940-1958’, has now been published. This edition now includes expanded details on the war time defences of the site, further details of the buildings and an expanded chapter on the transport system serving the factory.
The factory was situated in Sopers Lane, Creekmoor and the site is currently occupied by Siemens.
Although the ROF manufactured aircraft guns during and after the War until closure in 1958 and was a large employer in Poole, it seems that few people really knew what was produced during this period. The book gives a fascinating insight to the people lives and the work that was carried at the Creekmoor factory.
The price of the book is £8 (p&p extra) and it can be purchased from: David Warhurst Tel: 01202 696295

A book ‘POOLE DEFENCES IN WORLD WAR 2 – Poole Anti-Tank Island’, by David Warhurst, is now available from the author.
Although Poole was an important Anti Tank Island very little of these defences remain. The book records the setting up of the defence system and I have also recorded and listed any remaining defence structures for example, pillboxes, dragon’s teeth, air raid shelters and gun emplacements, which formed part of this history and are still currently in existence in Poole. (Including the former ROF Poole and former RNCF Holton Heath.)
The book gives a fascinating insight into the organisation and people who were responsible to protect the area as part of the overall defences of Britain during the war years.
Copies of the book, price £7, (p& p extra) can be obtained from:

Poole Air Raids and Air Raid Precautions 1939-1945
The book is mainly based on the Scrapbook that was kept by Harry Mears from Bournemouth who was appointed Civil Defence Controller for Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch during WW2.
It is from his scrapbook that contained many Bournemouth Echo cuttings and photographs related to the ARP, including ‘Poole’s ARP Reports’.
The chronological list of the air raids and many facts on the bombing raids on Poole, have been incorporated into this publication.
The price of the book is £6-00 (p&p extra) and it can be purchased from:
